Back to School | Organized Workspace

by Katrina

Many families are gearing up for back to school. Some have already returned. While some schools are planning for a traditional start, most are beginning the year with virtual learning. Either way, students need an organized workspace to build a successful foundation.

After thoughtful consideration, my first grader’s school decided to begin the year with virtual learning. The least I can do is create an organized workspace and stock it with power essentials. She will be ready for a full day of robust virtual learning.

Workspace Essentials

Desk Organizer

A desk organizer with six compartments to keep folders, pencils, pens, sticky notes, etc.

Alternative version in black can be found here

Headset with Mic

A headset with a mic can help filter background noise and help kids focus. This affordable set folds for compact storage.

Student Planner

Keeping track of classwork, special projects, and homework assignments is the foundation of success. This planner is well organized and easy to use.

Pencils

Ok, I was not going to add pencils to the list since they are a no brainer.  But, Ticonderoga pencils are the absolute best from the tip to the eraser.

Small Desk Clock

Start time management early.  This analog clock is anti-ticking and battery operated. Younger children will have the added bonus of learning to tell time.

Book Stand

Stylish and eco-friendly, this book stand will help keep the workspace organized. In addition to holding books and papers, it’s a great spot to keep tablets steady during Zoom calls.

Blue Light Blocking Glasses

In addition to the 20/20/20 rule –  look 20 feet away for 20 seconds after 20 minutes in front of the screen – blue light glasses provide relief from digital eye strain- supporting virtual learning.

Epson Expression Home Wireless Printer

This reasonably priced compact printer is an all-in-one that allows you to print out and scan homework assignments with ease. You can even print from your phone or tablet.

3-Tier Rolling Cart

After accumulating lots of supplies, we purchased this gem on wheels in dark grey. I am still amazed by how much it holds. It is an affordable and lovely space saver.

Removable Magnetic Whiteboard

This removable magnetic whiteboard is a temporary space that can be used to post daily affirmations, an ever-changing schedule, support children’s learning, or have them demonstrate what they’ve learned.
